So funny, I’m wearing my Bandon Dunes sweatshirt and relating so much. Last two posts- Jake has gone to BDs 4 times. The first I expected to be settled with a newborn & 2 year old, but newborn was late, I had staph infection and 2 year old decided to potty train. 2nd trip we were packing with a 30 day escrow to move out of state- 1&3 year old. 3rd trip we were living with my parents and house hunting, 4th we all got norovirus and I was sick home with 2 sick kids. Still he needed those trips so bad. You did too. The thing I’ve realized is that when he comes home from golf- he’s a better guy. He’s happy so our house is happy. In your situation, like you said, you HAVE to put on your oxygen mask first. Golf for you could possibly make everyone happier for the whole week. Keep doing these things, encourage Alison to do the same. And share how the new course is, as Jake is supper curious.
You're so right, Katie. Allison hasn't had an opportunity to do a longer trip like this one. But we always make sure she has time for herself.
The new course, Sheep Ranch, is great. Three years ago, I was lucky enough to get on the property and play it before it was developed. We had a blast making up holes and playing as an eightsome. So I was curious to see how different it would be as a fully developed course. Leading up to it, many people were saying it's the easiest course. And maybe that's true on a normal day. But when we played it on Monday afternoon, the wind was blowing super hard. It was gusting up to 35 mph. Let's put it this way, on the second hole, which was a downwind 285-yard par four, I drove the green with my 4-iron (and made a three-putt par, ugh). Then on the seventeenth hole, which was another short par four but into the wind, I hit my driver about 170 yards (and it was one of my most well-struck drives of the day). I'd love to go back and play a morning round there next time.
For me, as a mom, long trips hit different than they do for Jake. The planning and worry I put on myself are not worth it. But things like wandering target alone or a hike (or an empty 9 hole course with girlfriends where slow play is not an issue) are enough to reset.
I'm so glad you were able to go to your golf respite. You didn't mention your score tho! I hope that now it's Alison's turn.
Haha, well my scores started quite bad but got better every round. My last round was a 78 on a par 72 course. Definitely a great way to end the trip!

Looked like an awesome trip, happy for you Lyle!
It was amazing. Let me know if you get the chance. I’d love to join you!
