I agree that you don't adhere to a niche. But I think you are re-inventing the aughts blog format and I really love that. In your case it's more about the person, rather than any one niche you adhere to. And isn't that what we follow anyway? In any case, I've loved all your writing, on all your subjects!

This is why I enjoy reading your stuff! I've always envied people who are solid fans of one single thing. I am not that person. I love variety, am interested in a lot of different things (classic movies and AI for example), and I love the surprise element. "What's going to happen this time?" stuff. You produce that element. Keep sharing your multitudes! We enjoy them!

Niches are boring (to me.) Humans are not one-dimensional. Why should writing be? In the early web days, I published a popular website about guitars (niche.) After a few years, I couldn’t face the thought of writing about guitars any more. And I LOVE guitars. So I quit publishing the website. No more niches for me. Why limit yourself or your creativity? (Unless your goal is money. Then there are easier ways than writing. 🤣)

I feel like I write like you, which is why I like the niche, whatever it is :) Keep going, friend!!

Writer/musician who plays poker...you stole my schtick! :-)

Besides, I'm not really a musician, I'm a guitar player. But I've been thinking a lot about what you're saying here. Thanks for laying it all out like this. I think the only answer is to keep being you in your writing, even if that means taking on different voices.

Great post, Lyle - a master class in "WTF am I going to write about this week?"

I am glad I came across your work, Lyle! What did you do in the band?

Niche schmiche. I love the fact you explore various aspects of your world through words, turning your attention to whatever catches your eye. It's not easy to be a generalist with a broad range of interests in a world that too often seems to favour specialists...
