I wubba this post. Except I clicked on your FKJ link and got caught over at youtube for 40 minutes!! How does that happen. Thanks for introducing me to FKJ and for a very fine story.
Brilliant! Can we watch TV together? When I do this with my husband he gets really pissy...especially when I start talking camera angles and color schemes.
"You? In a band? You mean you spent months, years, decades practicing a mode of artistic expression with people around you that sparked creative joy outside of the countless hours spent working and caretaking? No way! Of course that would have never come up before."
Even on a show like Sesame Street, which does so much to promote arts and culture, practicing musicians get the shaft. 🤣 Enjoyed the 🌶 take, Lyle!
I mean my eyes were already in roll mode as soon as you mentioned Elmo. And being married to a guy that was in a touring band in his teens/20s, a scenario where a man keep that fact a secret is 100% unbelievable 😂 Keep these spicy takes coming Lyle!
I am pretty sure you are not suppose to take skits with talking muppets too seriously. Plus it was the 70s. People were weirder back then. 🤣
About your quote “Couldn’t he give his son some tips, like maybe try learning how to actually play your instrument or don’t cover songs meant for little kids?” Check out Sunny and the Blackpack. They cover nursery rhymes, kids songs, and jingles. They are an epic band doing unique covers and originals. Not just kids songs.
Technically, this episode came out in the aughts. But I get your point. Also, there’s a kids’ artist I actually kinda like named Casper Babypants who’s one of the members of the band The Presidents of the United States of America
I should have known by the haircuts. 🤣 My kids watched Sesame Street in the early 80s so we were still getting 70s stuff. I figured you were being a little tongue-in-cheek. But I think it perfect fine for children’s television to sometimes be silly and not always have an issue or educational aspect. Children need to play and imagine, not just get schooled.
I hear you on the actors being clueless on how to fake playing an instrument. At least move your hand! 🤣

FKJ is so talented. That’s a worthwhile YouTube rabbit hole, in my opinion

Don’t even get me started on camera angles, color schemes, and other minutiae like that

Lol, so true. Thanks, Michael!

Lol, good point
Snorted so many times while reading this.
Lol, I love a good snort laugh 😆
I was trying to eat a popsicle and almost choked at “generational trauma”.
Sorry, but also not sorry about that
Much needed laughing (real laughs not LOLing). This is hilarious
Thanks man!
